More About Skill or Luck

It's probably worth mentioning that my previous post where I stated that fantasy fishing is more luck than skill was refering to FANTASY fishing, not real fishing. Obviously there's a great deal of skill in what the anglers do, and even among the professionals, some are clearly better than others. Also, my comment was mostly about the format that FLW uses for their fantasy fishing game. I actually believe that the ESPN fantasy fishing format, which uses more tournaments each year and has a slightly more complicated game format, involves more skill. Why does my blog focus on FLW then? That's easy...the prizes!

Skill or Luck

Like other fantasy sports, fantasy fishing is a combination of luck and skill. There are definitely areas where you can use your knowledge of the anglers, the lakes, and the rules of the game to help your chances. However, with only seven tournaments in the season, and with huge bonuses for getting a pick in the top ten EXACTLY right, the fact is that FLW Tour Fantasy Fishing has a much greater element of luck than something like a fantasy baseball contest with daily transactions. In the fantasy baseball contest, you could run the season over and over, and the standing would be pretty close to the same each time. That's just not going to happen in FLW fantasy fishing. You could be the most knowledgeable person in the world, your picks could all be in the top thirty every tournament, and you could finish behind some novice who got first and second place right. With $2.3m on the line it's definitely worth doing what we can to help our chances though!

Welcome

Welcome to the world's first fantasy fishing blog. I'll be keeping everyone up to date in the world of fantasy fishing. The primary focus will be on FLW Fantasy Fishing, which this year gave out $2.3m in prizes. However, I'll be throwing in some strategy discussion that might prove useful for ESPN Fantasy Fishing as well. FLW has indicated that announcements regarding rules and prizes for 2009 Fantasy Fishing will be upcoming soon. With the first FLW Tour tournament scheduled for February, there isn't much time to prepare. Check back here often for strategy tips, news, and discussion about the upcoming season, and to find out when and how to register.
